FAQs

Will food be provided?
Yes, you'll be well fed and watered. All meals are provided, along with snacks and soft drinks (including tea and coffee) throughout the weekend. If your dietary requirements have changed since you filled in your registration form, please let us know as soon as possible. It would really help us if you could bring a reusable cup. One more thing: we have a number of participants with nut allergies, so if you bring extra food along, please make sure it does not contain nuts.
Is overnight accommodation provided?
Some people may choose to work all the way through the night, but most will choose some sleep! As the venue will be open for the entire event, you are welcome to sleep on-site free of charge (please bring a sleeping bag), or you are welcome to arrange your own off-site accommodation. If you sleep on-site, we have assigned two event rooms (male/female) in the venue for this purpose. We will not be able to provide private rooms for individuals. The event rooms are within the same area of the building as the hackathon, and the building itself will have 24/7 security staff present while we are on-site.
Can you recommend any off-site accommodation?
There are no hotels on the Here East campus itself, but there are a number of them a short walk away ranging from budget options to luxury hotels. As it will be at night, we can offer to walk 'as a group' to hotels at pre-agreed times. A couple of nearby hotels also offer discount codes you're welcome to use when booking: at The Stratford, use the code 2PL, and The Gantry can be booked through this link with the discount applied.
How do I get to the venue?
BUILD is being hosted at the Plexal site ('Press Centre' building) on the Here East campus. This is walkable (or shuttle bus) from both Stratford and Hackney Wick stations. The venue is also served by TfL bus services 388 and 241, as well as cycle paths. Full details: https://hereeast.com/get-here/
How will I know which project I'll be working on?
Whilst we will provide a list of projects beforehand, to help you choose there will be a chance to hear from and chat to those representing each of the challenges between 8-9pm. We want to make sure all projects are covered so we would kindly ask volunteers to be flexible.
Can I park at Here East?
Parking is available at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Multi-Storey car park, only a few minutes' walk from the venue.
I can't come for the whole event, can I come for some of it?
To ensure you get the most out of the event, we'd love for you to attend for the whole BUILD event. However, if this is not possible and you'd still like to be part of it, please reach out directly and we can discuss options.
Do you need to be a coder to be part of BUILD?
Not at all. We are looking for anyone who has an interest in technology, a heart for helping, and a desire to see technology advance the Kingdom. We often have a wide range of disciplines and experience at our events. God brings the right people with the right heart and skills every year.
Is it only for Christians?
Anyone can attend. BUILD is about redemptive technology rooted in a biblical approach, and you are welcome whatever your background. Come as you are and build something that matters.
I can't afford the ticket price, can I still come?
We don't want cost to be a barrier for anyone. If it is, then please get in touch via the "Reach Out" section of the FaithTech London webpage (https://www.faithtech.com/communities/london) as we may be able to provide limited subsidised tickets in some cases.
