Code of conduct.

BUILD is an event committed to glorifying God and serving others.

01 — Expectations

What we expect.

This code of conduct applies to every person at the event: participants, project leads, volunteers, crew, speakers and judges. It applies for the whole weekend, on site and in any event chat, and to anyone representing BUILD anywhere else.

Treat everyone as someone made in the image of God.
Act with kindness and integrity.
Join a team and commit to its project. Be collaborative. The direction of a project is the project lead's call.
The intellectual property of the project remains with the project lead.
Expect people from every kind of church, and some from none. Disagree with an approach without passing judgement on the person.
Look after the space, the kit and the people you share them with.

02 — Not acceptable

What is not acceptable.

Selling, recruiting or fundraising. BUILD is not the place to pitch services, hire people or look for investment. If both people want that conversation, have it in a break or after BUILD.
Photographing, filming or recording anyone who has said they would rather you didn't, and any photography in the sleeping areas.
Pressuring anyone about their beliefs. BUILD is a Christian event and worship, prayer and teaching are part of it. Taking part in those is optional, and like a church service everyone is welcome.
Being rude, derogatory or disruptive to your team or anyone else.
Harassment of any kind, including comments or jokes.
Deliberately damaging anyone's work, accounts or equipment, or accessing systems or data you have not been given permission to use.
Anything that puts someone's safety at risk, or that leaves the venue in a worse state than we found it.

03 — Overnight

Overnight.

The rooms are allocated male and female. Use the one you have been allocated and no other.
Quiet from 11pm. Overnight building happens in the main space, not in the rest areas.
If you have any concerns or something doesn't feel right, talk to security or a team member.

04 — Under-18s

Under-18s.

Anyone under 18 must attend with a parent or guardian. Adults should not be alone with a young person at any point during the weekend. If you are unsure whether something is appropriate, ask the organisers.

05 — Reporting

If something goes wrong.

Tell us. You do not need to be certain, and you do not need to have it all worked out first.

For someone dominating a team, someone being rude or a disagreement about direction, if you feel comfortable doing so then go to the person directly first. If that does not resolve it, follow up with a team member.

For anything involving your safety, harassment, or someone who holds more power than you, come straight to a team member.

On the day. Speak to any team member.
Before or after the event. Email london@faithtech.com.
Immediate danger. Call 999, then tell a team member so we can get venue security to you.

Concerns are escalated to FaithTech, who are accountable for how this event is run. You can contact Michael Day, FaithTech Regional Manager for Europe, and Kevin Burgess, VP of Cities and Create.

06 — What happens next

What happens next.

Depending on what has happened, we may have a quiet word, ask someone to change what they are doing, move someone between teams, or ask them to leave.

Anyone asked to leave goes without a refund, and we may decline them a place at future FaithTech events. Where there is a risk to anyone's safety we will involve venue security.

07 — Statement of faith

Statement of faith.

We affirm the Apostles' Creed:

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
